The Clos Laguiole collection is a superb modern adaptation of the beautiful Laguiole knives into efficient and magnificent handmade corkscrews. Master Cutler Claude Dozorme is a historic Laguiole knives maker from Thiers since 1902, always creating new designs and mechanism innovations while respecting its rooted handmade & artcraft traditions, those of Thiers city and Laguiole.

Laguiole knives are those svelte knives type with curved line shapes ornamented with a mythical bee and chiseled springs. Their name is "Laguiole" because they were first designed and produced to address the needs of the inhabitant of Laguiole, a small village in Aveyron, France. Historically, the true Laguiole knives have been essentially manufactured by the cutlers of Thiers, France and Europe Knife capital city since the Middle-Age, and very close from Laguiole.

Clos Laguiole corkscrews present generous precious handles, polished by hand, with nicely chiseled springs. On the innovation side, the mythical bee has been transformed into a smart mechanism of self axis fastening for the lever whenever needed, thanks to the little wrench provided. It will therefore never be "loose", a regular issue on other corkscrews with time. The same principle has been developed for the drill, which, by the way, is tapered to let you open your old bottles without breaking the cork. Clos Laguiole are assembled with micro Torx screws, the latest screw innovations with proven superior efficiency to maintain tight the parts assembled. They have a micro serrated edge foil cutter made of top of the range steel.

Model handle: Piece of artcraft and of Prehistory, this magnificent handle is made of an estimated 10,000 years old Mammoth Ivory. First, feel comfortable: the trade of Mammoth Ivory, or Molar, is legal. It is not part of the Washington Convention, aimed at protecting, hopefully, the Elephants from the atrocities we know. Mammoth Ivory has fossilized for thousands of years in the permafrost of Alaska and Siberia essentially and is discovered from time to time with melting ice and climate change it seems.Those fossilized Mammoth Ivory defenses have kept their unmatched texture and have been more or less naturally and wonderfully colorized by absorbing minerals in the course of those thousands of years in the soil. Copper Oxides have given it this blue / green color, while contact with iron oxides will give it red - brown colors.
