The rounded handle provides exceptional comfort and a stunning visual display of its material. Fontenille Pataud's patented flared lever system allows for effortless bottle opening in two steps. The blade, extremely sharp and easy to open, is intentionally non-serrated for a clean cut of the cork's protective capsule. The long, conical spiral ensures easy cork penetration with minimal damage, even for older corks. Connoisseurs will appreciate the iconic Laguiole bee and the spring, forged and sculpted from a single piece.

This handle is a true marvel, blending art and archaeology. Crafted from a genuine mammoth molar fossil, it was petrified in Siberia over thousands of years through a meticulous mineralization process. Each handle is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece, showcasing the unique natural patterns and grain of the mammoth molar, perfectly preserved through a process called “stabilization.” This stabilization makes the fossil incredibly dense, solid, and resistant to humidity. 

The intricate patterns of the mammoth molar, unique to each piece, reveal the different layers that compose the molar, such as dentin and enamel. To highlight these patterns, a special shade is applied during the stabilization process—blue for this particular model. The stunning variations in blue are a result of the differing densities and absorption capacities of each layer, creating a breathtaking natural effect.

To accompany such an exceptional material, the craftsman cutler who worked on this piece hand-carved the plates both above and below the handle ("guilloche" in French), a goldsmith's work, and mounted a Damascus steel lever, this ancestral blacksmith technique fusing different layers of steel and carbon, offering exceptional resistance and the superb patterns that can be seen.
